Irrevocably Mine – Big Dax & Stacy’s Playlist

I said I would post here, so I am finally doing it.

A little, no, a LOT late posting this here. I start sharing each couple’s playlist the two weeks leading up to release. After release, you can find their playlist on Spotify. From now on, I’ll also post here, just for fun.

IRREVOCABLY MINE – Imagine Ink 3

Whoever said love isn’t easy wasn’t kidding.
Love grabs hold, shapes you, and takes over until you are no longer in control.

At five foot two, Stacy stands tall in her designer heels—accessorized with a no-nonsense attitude, off-color sense of humor, and a sharp tongue.

Big Dax is larger than life—a sasquatch of a man with the soul of an artist, the heart of a Viking, and eyes for just one woman.

Stacy’s life is just fine as is—great sex, stiff drinks, and wins in the courtroom. She has everything she’s ever dreamed of and doesn’t need a man to “complete her” like some cheesy rom-com.

Dax has thought of nothing the past year except getting Stacy into his home, heart, and bed. Nothing, that is, except finding his daughter and bringing her home. He’s a man with two missions and both seem impossible. His daughter will come home, and Stacy will be his, come hell or high water.

Anything worth loving is worth fighting for.

Brand Me – Tori & Michael’s playlist

I said I would post here, so I am finally doing it.

A little, no, a LOT late posting this here. I start sharing each couple’s playlist the two weeks leading up to release. After release, you can find their playlist on Spotify. From now on, I’ll also post here, just for fun.

BRAND ME – Imagine Ink 2

Love shouldn’t just make you happy, it should brand you.

Tori Reid thinks she’s well on her way to everything she ever wanted. When her boyfriend, Richard invites her on a three-month vacation, she assumes he’s finally going to pop the question. But when she meets Michael, her expectations for the trip, and her future, quickly change.

Everything about Michael Brande screams quintessential playboy. He seems to be relishing his newly-single status by jumping from bed to bed across the Florida Panhandle.

However, appearances can be deceiving.

The mandatory trip to Tennessee couldn’t have come at a better time. He needed to get away-now. Away from his cheating ex-fiancée trying to worm her way back into his life, the increasing tales of his “many exploits,” but mostly from his secret shame and taunting dreams. His life couldn’t possibly get worse.

Both are about to learn that some truths are painful, but sometimes, pain is necessary for salvation.

Indelible You-Walker & Erika’s Playlist

A little, no, a LOT late posting this here. I start sharing each couple’s playlist the two weeks leading up to release. After release, you can find their playlist on Spotify. From now on, I’ll also post here, just for fun.

EDIT: SHIT, I posted this last month, or so I thought. Apparently, I drafted it and forgot.

INDELIBLE YOU – Imagine Ink 1
Ink is indelible.
So is love, at least in theory.

Walker is an over-inked, reformed bad boy. He’s a man with a checkered past, anger issues, and eyes for just one woman.

Erika is a slightly older woman with secrets of her own, who is head over heels (actually knees over shoulders) in love with him.

Somehow, they have remained oblivious to their mutual attraction for five years.

One night, they take the plunge. Love conquers all, right?

They expose their hearts and bodies, expecting a happily ever after until a terrible secret is revealed—during climax.

Anything worth having is worth bleeding for—and boy will they bleed—but will it be enough to drain the taint of that secret, or will it be fatal for both of them?

Some things are more permanent than tattoos.

TRACK 8 – Angel – Judas Priest

TRACK 9 – Anywhere – Advantasia

TRACK 10 – This Love – Pantera

TRACK 12 – Love Me Forever – Motörhead

Author Questions Answered (Music)

Answering the author questions I get asked the most. I am in no way indicating that I speak for the community as a whole. As authors are diverse, so are their answers. This/these is/are simply mine.

MUSIC

Modern Computer Station

  • What do you listen to when you write? Do you have a writing playlist?

This is probably one of the top 5 questions I get asked. Almost every questionnaire I receive has it, many readers ask it, and I always want to know about my favorite books/authors too.

For me, I don’t have a set writing playlist, rather each couple/book has their/its own unique playlist. More often than not, music is my first introduction to them, the first thing they share with me. I get to know them through their music before they let me in on their story. Music is, for me, an intimate way to get to know people in real life, so why not my characters? They don’t always give me their entire library, but a song here or there, and once I have enough to get a feel for them, I immerse myself in that music, even when it is totally not my personal taste. Not only when I am actively writing, but when I’m in the car, riding Lemmy, or working out. That playlist is on a loop, and at some point, I mesh with them on a different level, and then their story begins to take on new layers. I continue listening to the playlist until the book is finished.

FOLLOW UP QUESTIONS

  • Do you always connect through music?

Yes and no.

Yes, because I always need to connect through music for my character to have depth. For me to even understand them and tell their story, I have to feel their music.

No, because sometimes I can’t. When I find myself skipping songs repeatedly, I suffer character block. I can’t get a real feel for them. Currently, I find myself skipping songs on my WiP playlist or just turning it off, causing me to not be able to connect to one of my main characters. I can’t write them when I can’t connect and sadly, music is my main bridge.

  • Why isn’t it in the back of your book? Can (do) you share it?

I have read books with a playlist in the back matter, and while I personally love the idea, I am not sure of all the legalities about doing it myself. I would rather put my money in editing, covers, and marketing than to pay a lawyer to find out or to handle it if I do so without full knowledge and have to pay. (Yes, there is always Google, but I prefer not to rely on an internet search for legal advise.) Besides, I do share the playlists. I have them on Spotify, I also share them on my Facebook page and Pinterest. However, I am going to start sharing them here. (I’ll get my back-lists up this week.)

  • Do your characters only listen to your favorite music?

No, sometimes they listen to songs that make me want to drive rusty railroad spikes through my eardrums, but it’s not about what I like, it’s all about getting in touch with them.

Dear ARC Reader

Let me state up front, that as a writer, I enjoy sending out ARCs and opening on release day with reviews. To those who read and review for me so I can hopefully open strong, THANK YOU!

You get a free book, hopefully one you enjoy, but you give so much more than the $2.99 list price.

  • You give the writer your thoughts and ideas. Speaking personally, I have altered things in future books because of reviewers.
  • Amazon may even noticed a book, if only for a fleeting moment, because of reviews.
  • Someone out there may  discover a new author or book solely because of YOU. Remember that fluttery feeling when you found a book or author that just spoke to you? You can help someone else get that same feeling.
  • Your fellow readers get valuable information to make a book selection that best suits them.
  • ARC holders are envied a little bit. Yep, there are people out there who would love to get ARCs. Some I’ve met can’t afford books, and this is how they are able to read new stuff.
  • You have a good chance to get the next ARC, and the next, and the next. Also, authors talk, a lot. They might even recommend you to another author who wants to put ARCs in the hands of people who will review them.

That is some pretty amazing shit when you think about it. So much power contained within roughly 300 electronic pages, your opinion, and you willingness to share your thoughts.

A book that has a set number of reviews on Amazon can get better placement, recommendations, and get noticed by potential readers, while books with few reviews are sometimes buried and never seen by anyone not specifically looking for it by title or author.

So hell yeah, writers love ARC holders.*

*When they do what they agreed to do.

Lately, there seems to be a trend of people signing up for ARCs simply for a free book. Hell, I love free books as much as the next person, but there is a spirit to the exchange that isn’t being honored. Now that I’ve told you what is to be gained by ARC holders who follow the spirit of the exchange, let me show you the other side.

You get a free book, hopefully one you enjoy, but you give so much less than the $2.99 list price.

  • Other readers get nothing from it. Nothing!
  • The writer, who gave you a book that others have to pay for, before its released, gets nothing for their months of hard work. Well, this is not entirely true, we get acid reflux, heart palpitations, and sore fingers searching and praying and waiting for something we never see. Something we trusted you at your word to do.
  • The ARC was taken from others who would have followed the spirit of the exchange. I send out a limited number, not everyone who asks, gets one. Like I said, I have met faithful ARC readers/reviewers who only read ARCs because they can’t afford to buy books.
  • Someone new doesn’t get that fluttery feeling by discovering a new author/book simply because of your opinion.
  • Amazon doesn’t recommend it.
  • You threw away power! Never wielding it for good, or even evil. You just tossed it aside.
  • Future ARC distribution is impacted negatively.

I am sorry if this seems harsh, but for me personally as a writer, when I see less than 10% participation in a program, I drop the program. It’s not worth it at that point. It’s not a good enough return on an investment to continue to invest. As I have limited resources, I need to put my energy and other resources, where it can impact me most as an author. While there is a financial aspect, I am speaking in a non-financial sense also. But as with finance, if an investment is tanking, you pull out and find a more suitable one.

So please all you ARC holders out there, if you just want a free book to read at your leisure without the pressure to review it, go to the library, or hell, even the book store and read it there. But please do not take a “free” ARC that ends up costing others.
